Guidelines for Success: Use the school Pride reminder. P=be present; R= Show respect; I= get involved; D=honor diversity; E= give effort District wide expectations are included in Thompson School District discipline code.
Classroom Rules: These are the basic important student behaviors: Come to class every day that you are not seriously ill. Arrive on time with your charged Chrome books, paper, pencil, pen, notebook, and all previous science work for the unit. Follow directions the first time they are given. Stay on task during all work times. This also means to have a positive work ethic and participate. Food and drinks are not allowed when doing a lab. Place food/drinks in your pack or floor. Put your cell phones away. No games or social media during class. No earphones or music during class. If you have any questions about when it is ok, ASK FIRST. Activities: There will be a variety of different instructional strategies used throughout the semester. These include: a. Lab activities b. Classroom lecture/discussion c. Group study and problem solving d. Reading (textbook, articles, other resources) e. Writing (review of articles, labs, problem solving) f. Visuals – Computers; projects; on-line tutorials
Relative Value: 90% - Evidence (Standard Based Instruction)– This includes the following tests/quiz, lab reports, selected assignments, and projects - they will each be attached to an appropriate competency. 10%-Work Habits - selected assignments, homework, and how you collaborate, communicate, and work during class. (Assignments include your interactive notebook for the unit.) The rubric will focus on collaboration, communication, creative problem solver, and self agency.
Classroom Procedures Entering the Classroom: Get to class on time. At that time, the weebly website will be shown in the front of the room. You should be working on the question of the day (warm up question), updating your unit cover sheet, and reviewing the agenda while the role is being taken.
Tardy to Class: Get any missing questions of the day from the website. How many minutes you are late will be documented. If you are late, please document the time you got into class by signing in at the front door. If you DO NOT do this, I may not have the document that proves when you came to class. After 5 mins late, a tardy will be considered an absence but the time you came in will be documented. Chrome books, Paper and pencil: Please have your Chromebook fully charged, paper and pencil or pen on hand.
How to find out what the daily assignments are: Each day you will fill out what you should have in your notebook. If something is missing, you are responsible to get the required work from me during clean up, lunch, or before/after school or get from the website. Daily assignments, homework, and long range assignments will also be posted on my website: frasersscienceweb.weebly.com . (Do not go to the school website or put www. in front.) Be sure to list any missing assignment on the given handout at the front of your unit notebook.
Turning in and returning assignments: Assignments are to be handed in as soon as they are due. They will be returned to you individually and you are to put them in the appropriate place in your notebook. DO NOT delete or throw away any work. Your notebook must contain all the completed and graded work for the unit. This will be part of your work habit competency grade and you will need your notebook to study from, or use as a reference.
You may do test corrections and redo’s on most pieces of evidence collected for your competency standard, but you will have to go over your mistakes with me first and prove that you are competent in the area required. Then you can retake/redo but not on the same day that you had met with me. Check your grade from the computer and contact me at an appropriate time (this cannot be done during class time) . This must be done within the time frame of when the unit is being done. After the unit is over, it will be too late to get any work habit points. If a test or project is given at the very end of the unit, you will have a week after the unit to redo or retake. If you did not hand in or take your test or project on the due date, NO redo's or retakes are possible. All retakes on any assignment can only earn 1/2 credit on the missed items.
A “HOMEWORK GRADE” is considered part of your 10%- Work Habits. Did you do your homework and were you prepared with questions or understanding? This is an attempt grade!!! All completed questions on time will earn a 10. If you have left ANY questions blank this means that you were NOT prepared when you came to class, you did NOT finish your homework AND you will earn a 0 or missing.
Finding out grade status: Please check your grades frequently. I will occasionally review your grade with you, but you are to be responsible and monitor your own grades weekly. If you believe a mistake is made, you are to notify me as soon as possible. This can be done by email or contact me.
Student responsibilities after an absence: First, check my website. You can get the 5 minute warm up items. You are still responsible for ALL the work and my website will outline what we did during your absence and you should be aware of the competencies you still need to complete. Handouts and notes can also be downloaded from the website and sometimes google classroom. Excused absences will have the same amount of absent time to make up work without penalty. Unexcused or unknown absences will get no credit for any work habit grade, but you will still need to do the work for your notebook. If you have an unexpected absence during a test or due date for a piece of evidence required, you are to email or call me as soon as possible. If you know you will be absent, you are to tell me BEFORE, so that accommodations can be made. After 4 absences parents will be called. If you return from an absence and a test is given or a major assignment is due in, you will NOT get any extra days to finish or study since you will have been warned beforehand AND the information is available on my website. Late, missing, incomplete, resubmitted assignments, or test retakes: You will have until the end of the unit to hand in missing work, or work you want to resubmit. Test retakes are to be done within a week of when the grade for that test is posted. You will have a week after the unit to also hand in a late notebook. If we are past the time limit , then it will be "Missing" or 0, and your grade will stay as such. There are NO redos on late work AND no retakes if the test was not taken when given in class. All retakes on any assignment can only earn 1/2 credit on the missed items. Bathroom/Locker passes: You will be given 5 passes each semester, each worth 10 points. Passes that are not used will be added to your work habit grade at the end of the semester.
Ending Class: DO NOT leave the class without permission. You will owe me double the amount of time. Do NOT pack up early or leave the classroom before I dismiss you!
